THE ROYAL BOTANICAL GARDENS

A GARDENER’S FANTASY

The Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) are located in Hamilton, Ontario, approximately halfway to Toronto, and just an hour’s drive from Buffalo via Grand Island and the QEW. It’s more than worth the trip to this world-renowned facility to be enlightened in the fields of horticulture, botany, and natural history. This spring RBG welcomes you to participate in their Public Program, which offers classes ranging from getting started with perennials to flower arranging to cooking classes and family events. The following is a sample from their Spring ’99 (April & May) class schedule:

FOR THE GARDENER:

Container Madness-Saturday May 1, 1:30 – 3pm, OR Wednesday May5, 7:30 – 9pm.
Growing Roses – Wednesdays, April 14 & 21 and June 23, 7:30 – 9:30pm
Perennials: Bed Renovation and Plant Division – Saturday, April 24, 10am – 3pm
Pruning Woody Plants – Saturday, May 15, 10 – 11:30am

BOTANICAL ARTS & CRAFTS

Fresh Flower Arranging – Spring Basic – Tuesdays, May 4 – June 8, 10am – 12:30pm OR 7 – 9:30pm
Beginning Botanical Watercolours – Tuesdays, April 20 – June 8, 9:30am – noon OR 7 – 9:30pm
Flowers Everlasting – Saturdays, May 29 & Sept. 11, 10am – 12:30pm
WHAT’S COOKING

Ginger Spice: Pleasures, Taste & Health – Wednesday, April 21, 7-9pm

FOR KIDS, FAMILIES & TEACHERS:

Family Sunday Fundays at the Garden – Sundays, April 25 & May 16, 2-4pm
Junior Gardener’s Club (ages 8 – 14) Saturdays, May 15,29 and June 5 to 26, 9:30 – 11:30am OR 1:30 – 3: 30pm

RBG members receive a substantial discount on course fees, provided that registrations are received on or before the registration deadline. For membership please contact (905) 527 – 1158 ext. 229.
